Anxiety anyone?

That is how I have been feeling for the past week for two reasons.  The first and most importantly Chayse started preschool on Tuesday!  She will be going 3 days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.  Tuesday went GREAT!!  She walked right in, sat down for circle time and was ready to go.  Yesterday and today, not so great.  She cried both times when I dropped her off….clinging to my leg and NOT wanting me to leave.  Needless to say my heart was breaking!!!  I know Tuesday was easy because the idea of school was new and exciting, but after the first day she understood the process….ie. mom not being there for the WHOLE day.  So, now we enter the seperation anxiety stage (for both mom and daughter) and begin the journey of letting go.  I remember this process with Ty and it took at least a month before he started to become comfortable.  AND, I know Chayse needs to go through the same thing, but it is really bothering me more this time.  WHY?  I really think it has to do with Chayse being my baby.  This is the last time I will go through this process.  Both of my kids are growing up and becoming indepentent from mom.  Chayse starting preschool just drives that home AND it doesn’t help that Ty will be starting kindergarten on the 25th.  So, in a few more weeks it will just be me, home alone, 3 days a week!!!  I am excited for this and dreading it at the same time.  What am I going to do?  My whole life for the past 5 years has been the kids and now I will have all this time on my hands.  THEN, come next year (I know it’s a whole year away, but it will be here sooner than later) both kids will be in school full time; Ty in 1st grade and Chayse in kindergarten.  Then what?  Get a job?  Try and continue working from home?  Plus, I don’t want to miss out on helping out at the school, PTA, extra.  Can you tell my brain has been racing???

Anyway, the second thing that has me stressing is the cabinets.  As I mentioned before, we are having the kitchen and all the bathroom cabinets stained.  The stain is up and now we are trying to figure out the top coat.  The problem?  The top coats are SO shiny!!!  I don’t remember the cabinets being that shiny.  I do have to say that Frank, the guy doing the work, has been really patient and is trying all different products to find the best one to use.  BUT, the process is still stressful….especially since I have my entire kichen in my livingroom!!  I just want my house back to normal so I can actually prepare a meal or should I say a HEALTHY meal for my family.  I am the type of person who cooks dinner almost every night, we rarely go out, and not being able to for almost the past month has been KILLING me!!!  I know the end is in sight, but it can’t get her soon enough for me!!!

Momma time in July

I was actually able to get some time away from the kids in July.  On July 18th & 19th was the bridal spectacular and that means the bridal fashion show.  I have been doing the show since July of 2006 thanks to my good friend Joy.  She is the choreographer of the show.  The show takes place every January and July and I have been able to be her assistant for the past 3 shows.  We work on the choreography together and I also help teach the numbers to the other models in the show as well as being one of the models myself.  I love being able to do something else then just “mom” twice a year….it makes me feel like I am taking part in the “outside world” again.  I am able to delve into my creative side and take part in something that is COMPLETELY different from my day to day life.  Plus, Mark loves being able to tell people that he is married to a “model”  :)

I was also able to have a ”moms day of shopping” with my friend Jamie and her friend Sara.  We went to Town Square.  We were able to go in ”grown-up” stores and didn’t let each other shop for kids clothes at all!  I also found out that I truely love Ann Taylor Loft.  The clothes fit me perfectly and I was able to find some pants for this fall and winter that were actually long enough for me.  I guess I need to except the fact that I need to shop in “grown-up” stores to find clothes that fit my almost 40 year old frame.  Yes, almost 40…I know it’s still 4 years away, but those 4 years will be gone before I know it!!  We ended the day with a nice dinner at California Pizza Kitchen.  Great day!!!  Thanks ladies!

And the last thing for momma……staining the kitchen, and all the bathroom, cabinets.  I have been thinking and talking about this one for a while now and we finally are doing it.  Through my friend Joy we found Frank who does all kinds of construction and home renovations.  He is charging us a great price to stain all the cabinets in the whole house.  We are right in the middle of the project and can see the end in sight.  The cabinets are going from a honey color (they are Oak cabinets) to a really nice chocolate brown color.  They are nice and dark!!  So far I am totally happy with the color and can’t wait to see it when everything is done and back in place.

Oh, and I also found a GREAT painting for the familyroom.  I don’t think Mark is to hip on it, but what guy really does like pictures of flowers?  I love how it looks!!!

Another weekend here again

Man, this week has gone by so fast!!  Before I knew it it was time for soccer games again and weekend projects.  Tyler’s soccer game on Saturday was great!!  Ty finally got his first goal this season!!  YEAH!  I have to say it was an amazing shot.  The kids were about 25 ft from the other teams goal and Ty was able to steal the ball away from the other team, turn it around, and start towards the goal.  No one really even noticed that he had done it.  He dribbled just for a very short distance then haled off and kicked as hard as he could.  The ball went screaming past the goalie slamming into the net.  The goalie didn’t even have time to react.  It was brilliant!  Ty started jumping up and down and ran over to the sidelines and high-fived his dad.  I have to say all the kids on our team were on their game.  We ended up winning 7-1!  Chayse’s game was not as exciting.  Again, all she did was cry.  I know this is probably not the best thing to do, but Mark finally had enough.  Chayse has had at least 7 practises and 4 games now and she still HATES to play.  We were hoping she would start to warm up to it, but I actually think she dislikes it more now then when the season started.  So, Mark has pulled her.  No more playing!  We even gave away her shin guards and cleats to another little girl on the team who did not have any.  Mark is done with her crying and distracting the team.  We gave it a try and she just does not like it.  So, needless to say we don’t have to worry about two kids playing soccer anymore and can now concentrate on Tyler.  Chayse is still in her dance class and loves it, so we will stick with that for now.

Today I made some cupcakes for Jorie next door.  Her son Tyler Allen is turing 6 and she asked me to make some soccer themed cupcakes for her to take to TA’s class tomorrow.  Then, my next project sheduled was to start painting Chayse’s room.  I am using the same pink paint color that her friend Perri has in her room; Be Mine from Home Depot.  I was only able to get on coat done today since I was not able to even start until very late in the afternoon.  Mark was playing golf this morning and it’s just to difficult to try and paint and watch the kids.  No biggy; I have one coat done and will hopefully get the second one done tomorrow.  Chayse is SO excited to finally be getting her pink room!!!  Take a look:

She wanted to help so badly…she came running up with her little paint brush from their arts and crafts drawer; how could I say no.  Here she is “painting her room”.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Happy Friday

Happy Friday all!  I am glad it’s almost the weekend.  It seems like it has been a very long week.  Probably since I was trying to get back to my routine after Ty was sick all last week.  Speaking of routine, Ty is back to soccer practise tonight and will have his game tomorrow.  This soccer season has been pretty strange.  The very first game of the season was rained out, I missed the second game having just had my wisdom tooth pulled the day before, and then we missed last weeks game because of being sick.  I am really looking forward to tomorrows game.  It is supposed to be 64 degrees tomorrow and should make for a great day!  I am going to try and remember to bring the camera tomorrow so I can upload some pictures of my little man in action.  He likes the sport so much that he has decided to decorate his room in a soccer theme.  I actually found some really cute items at Home Goods this week.  I found a soccer ball mirror, soccer ball magnet board, and two soccer ball corner shelves.  All of them are covered in white and black leather.  Ty is very excited about finding them and can’t wait for Mark to hang everything up; hopefully we can get to it this weekend.  Wish us luck that we win…..Go Dragons!!

Driving myself crazy!!!

For the most part of Sunday I was on the computer surfing the web for bed sets for my daughter.  Not long ago we bought new furniture for her room and I want to start decorating it.  So, really, how hard can it be to find a cute bed set for a 3 year old little girl?  Well, in my case, very hard!!!  I was on the computer for hours…..I think four, non-stop, looking.  Seriously, four hours, and the only reason I got off is because Mark MADE me.  I kept emailing pictures of different sets to my mom and friend in CA to get their opinions.  Then, once I got them I would go right back to looking and send more.  Now, before I go any further I want to say THANK YOU to both of them for not coming through the computer and knocking me upside the head.  I love you both!!  Ok, back to my story.  So, like I said, Mark made me get off the computer and stop looking.  Then, Monday came and what did I do as soon as I got home from taking Ty to school….that’s right, bed set hunting.  I had found a handful that I liked, but the one I LOVED was just not an option.  It of course was a set from Pottery Barn and one that they don’t even sell anymore; I found it on eBay.  A 9 piece set for only the minimal price of $400.  Now, again, Chayse is 3.  I love the bedding in Pottery Barn, but not that much.  So, the hunt continued, but the bad thing was I was so in love with the other set nothing else was good enough.  Finally, I just got up from the computer and actually turned it off so I couldn’t go back to continue looking.  Now Tuesday comes.  Ty is off from school (he is only in preschool and only goes 3 days a week), so I load Chayse and Ty in the car and off we go…..looking at bed sets!  Are you starting to see the neurotic pattern here???  Anyway, after looking at who knows how many stores I finally just buy a set from Target that I had looked at, but just wasn’t sure on.  I brought it home and thought I would just lay it on her bed and see what I think.  Well, I thought it was nice, maybe a little to old for her, but it looked great with her furniture.  Then in comes Chayse…..”Mommy I LOVE my new bed, it has beautiful pink flowers on it.  Can we paint my walls pink now?”  She hugged me and left the room.  Decision made! :)   Funny how all it takes is the words of your child to bring you back to what’s really important.

New flooring?

Mark and I have been in our house now for just over two years.  The house was a resale and was already one year old when we bought it.  It came with the worse carpet ever; I mean how can you have a house with light tan carpet when you have two kids and a dog?!  Mark told me that we would replace it someday……now, someday to Mark is never if he can get away with it or until I nag him enough that he finally gives in.  Well fokes he has given in!!  Yeah.  We are talking about getting new flooring sometime this summer.  Since my husband is such a planner, especially when it comes to the cost, we have already started to look at different options.  We have narrowed it down to four at this point…..laminate, engineered wood, bamboo, or tile.  We both love the look of wood floors, but in Vegas you just can’t us “real” wood.  All the floors under the carpet are concrete and most of the time tension concrete, so whatever you put down has to be glued or a “floating” floor.  If we go with tile we would want to fine some that looks like wood and has no grout lines…..I hate grout.  Well, having done some looking today, I am leaning towards bamboo.  I really LOVE how it looks, but am concerned that it may not look good with the cabinets in the kitchen.  So, my thought on dealing with that issue…..stain the cabinets!  Mark actually listened!  AND, we even talked about replacing the kitchen island with a bigger one since there is room.  Ok, what I want to know is “What happened to my husband?”  Can he really be considering doing ALL these changes?  Now, don’t get me wrong, if he is really ok with doing all this to the house I am all for it!  I love the layout of my house and I love the neighborhood, but would also love to put my own touches into the house.  So, for now, we will continue to discuss “options” and we’ll just see how it progresses from there.  But, I keeping my fingers crossed that I get what I want!! :)
